Eagles Robotics Champions

Press Release (courtesy of Mr. Sergio Franco)

The JGHS Robotics team — juniors Diego Contreras, Sammy Hamouda, and Benjamin Sanchez — won their fourth consecutive district robotics championship on Thursday, February 24, 2022.  They defeated eight other robotics teams from NHS and LMHS in a competition that combined all of the previous skills and tasks (autonomous, search and rescue, and battle).

They overcame many challenges to achieve their victory: a less than optimal competition field, cortex malfunctions, motors not working, wiring issues, code not parsing, removing a part of the robot that completely stopped working mid-competition, and all while helping other teams fix their robot and code.

The students are extremely dedicated and passionate. Their success is proportional to the huge amounts of time they invested in preparing for the competitions; they met before school, during break, during lunch, after school, and on late starts.

They are proud of representing our wonderful learning community. Please let them know you are proud of them as well!

Please join me in congratulating our NLMUSD Search and Rescue Robotics Champions–juniors Diego Contreras, Sammy Hamouda, and Benjamin Sanchez.

On Thursday, October 28, our Glenn team easily defeated nine other teams, including those from La Mirada High School and Norwalk High School by earning the top three highest scores in the competition, held at Huerta Elementary School in Norwalk.  Led by Diego, our students put on a beautiful and dominant display in a masterclass of engineering, programming, and strategy.

Our team would like to thank Mr. Sul and Ms. Vaughn for attending the tournament and supporting our team.

UPDATE:

Once again, our robotics team, juniors Diego Contreras and Sammy Hamouda, won their second consecutive robotics championship on Tuesday, December 7. They achieved the three highest scores of the night by earning perfect scores in all three of their runs. Their robot was the only robot to earn a perfect score and their score was 6x greater than second place. These students are absolutely amazing and their dedication to excellence inspiring! Congratulations to our NLMUSD Autonomous Robotics Champions!
