2023 NFL Divisional Round Playoff Predictions

Last week, we made our picks for the wild card round. Let’s recap how we did. We all incorrectly predicted a Vikings win over the Giants; otherwise, our NFL correspondent Rodolfo Garcia was perfect in his other predictions.

  • Rodolfo Garcia | 5-1
  • Mr. Higgins | 4-2
  • Richard Sanchez | 3-3
  • Michael Rodriguez | 3-3

It is now time to move on to round two of the NFL playoffs, otherwise known as the Divisional Round. The top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs now join the fight, hosting the lowest remaining seeds in these Divisional Round games.
*For this round of predictions, our sports editor Carlos Lopez replaces Michael to make picks.

NFL Season Predictions: The NFC

NFC Predictions

By Richard Sanchez

With the recent wins and upsetting losses with the current NFL season as of September 24 2022, this my NFL NFC conference prediction.

1. Packers
2. Lions*
3. Vikings
4. Bears
1. Buccaneers
2. Falcons
3. Saints
4. Panthers
1. Eagles
2. Cowboys*
3. Giants
4. Commanders
1. Rams
2. 49ers*
3. Seahawks
4. Cardinals
* Wild Card Teams

Teams to Watch:

First on the list in no particular order are the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers has had a difficult start to the season so far but it is still possible for him to bring the Packers to a possible NFC championship the record predicted for this season is 13 wins and 4 loses.

Philadelphia’s own Eagles are next up with an amazing start to the season and not showing any stop to their win streak. Don’t get too cocky Eagles fans, there is always the possibility of injury; but with reviewing the previous season records, the Eagles are an average-to-above-average team with a good set up. The Philadelphia Eagles are predicted to be at 9 wins and 8 loses with a playoff appearance.

WHOSE HOUSE?! … RAMS HOUSE. The L.A. Rams are up next and I predict them carrying out the west with a 15 and 2 record with a heavy battle between them and the Packers. With their past Super Bowl win it’s very possible they go back, but they could get eliminated sometime mid to late playoffs. Players to look out for during their games are Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Cooper Kupp, and Matthew Stafford.

Could Brady and the Bucs win another one? Tom Brady is without a doubt the GOAT of quarterbacks; but could he take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to another Super Bowl is the real question? The record for this season hopefully will be 14 and 3. Buccaneers playoffs don’t look very bright with only having Mike Evans as their reliable wide receiver.

These are my NFC predictions and let’s see who comes out on top, good luck to every team out there and I hope for the best.

Stay safe out there people.

Bring Your “Bestea” and Drink Some Boba

By Michael Rodriguez, Richard Sanchez, and Genesis Garcia

Besteas Boba knocked it out of the park for the grand opening on August 20th 2022.

Located at 13041 Rosecrans Avenue, STE204 in Norwalk, Besteas Boba customers were spotted lining up around the building just for a taste of their delicious boba. Exclusive Besteas boba tumble cups, coming in either baby blue or pink, and tote bags were given to the first 50 customers purchasing any of their delectable treats and drinks. Grand opening deals were also included, such as “Buy 2, get 1 free” on all drink options.

Norwalk Mayor Rick Ramirez was present at the opening and eagerly waited to cut the red ribbon with owners, Young and Dave. With Mayor Ramirez’s help, Dave and Young cut the ribbon to welcome their customers into the shop.

The name Besteas Boba is a portmanteau, which means the name has multiple meanings, such as Best-Teas referring to the shop having the best teas in the area and another for Besties, because in most cases when getting boba people bring their best friends along.

Many guests were in a hurry just to be one of the first 50 people to receive a tote bag and tumbler cup. Some customers even reported a lady repeatedly trying to grab a tumbler cup and tote bag through plexiglass until she was finally able to reach around and grab the items. A customer reported, “She kept trying to get the bag and the plexiglass kept shaking, when the lady grabbed the bag and cup she tried to hide it away and play it off like nothing happened, then she just scooched her way out and left.”

Besteas Boba now includes new milk options such as almond and oat milks; it serves macarons in 6 flavors (Strawberry & Cream Cheese, Vanilla Bean, Espresso, Taro, Earl Grey, and Green Tea).

You can check their Instagram @Besteasboba, where they constantly post their BTS pop up events, happy hours, and boba deals, plus their regular updates to the menu, and much more. They have even reduced prices for students and are currently having happy hour from 12-4pm. At happy hour, you can spin a wheel after a purchase to possibly win prizes, such as a free drink, free macaroon, free snacks and many more deals.

Besteas is open every day from 11:30am-9pm.

Eats and Treats

Halloween Recipe: Spooky Marshmallow Cheesecake

By Richard Sanchez

This season’s Eats and Treats is Spooky Marshmallow Cheesecake. With the help from your friendly ghost Casper, let’s spook the crowd and have something cheesy.

This delectable treat takes 30 minutes to prepare, 1 hour and 30 minutes to bake, and 2 hours to chill and set.

Casper’s favorite treat has 479 calories, 30 grams of fat, 17 grams of saturates, 48 grams of carbs, 37 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, 5 grams of protein, and 0.6 grams of salt.

Items needed to begin your baking adventure are:

  • 300 g of cream-filled chocolate sandwich biscuits
  • 75 g melted butter
  • 180 g white mini marshmallows
  • 50 ml milk
  • 500 g full fat soft cheese
  • 200 ml double cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  • For the ghost you need: 2 egg whites, 200 g caster sugar, and black writing icing.

Start off with using a food processor or blender to turn the biscuits into fine crumbs. Pour your melted butter in with crumbs and blitz to combine them. Line a loose bottom cake tin with baking parchment. Pour crumb mixture into cake tin and press the mixture against the base and sides of the tin. Leave the tin in the fridge to chill while you make your filling.

Put your marshmallows and milk into a sauce pan and put it on low-medium heat and stir until the marshmallows are melted. Let it cool down for a few minutes.

Place your soft cheese, cream, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and whisk. Pour your warm marshmallow mixture in with your previous mixture and mix until smooth again. Remove your chilled biscuit base from the fridge and scrape your filling in, smooth the top and chill for 2 hours.

Heat your oven to 250 degrees, line a baking tray with baking parchment, put egg whites in a large clean bowl with a pinch of salt and whisk till foamy. Beat 1 tbsp of sugar into your meringue and make sure it holds soft peaks.

Spoon your meringue into a piping bag fitted with a round nozzle and add your ghost to the top of the cheese cake. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes then let it cool.

When the meringue is cool, use your icing to carefully draw faces on your ghosts. Carefully remove the cheesecake from your tin and place on a plate or cake stand. You should keep the cake in the fridge for up to 2 days to let it all set but you can eat it once you’re finished.

Voila! You have created your very own spooky cheesecake to launch off this Halloween season, I hope you enjoy and make sure to look forward to next quarter’s recipe. If you are curious about any other Halloween recipes such as this, check out BBC Good Food.com.

This is RS signing off, Stay safe out there people.
