The Book Of Boba Fett Review

By: Orion

The Book of Boba Fett released its season finale on February 9th on Disney+, with 7 episodes to boast, each of which run from about 50 to 60 minutes. The series serves as a sequel/spinoff of The Mandalorian and by extension the Return of The Jedi with many of the pivotal cast members from the Mandalorian returning to reprise their roles. Temuera Morrison returns as the titular character, Ming-Na Wen and Pedro Pascal also return respectively as Fennec Shand and Din Djarin. Others who reprise their roles are Timothy Olyphant (Cobb Vanth), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), Corey Burton as the voice of Cad Bane (portrayed physically by Dorian Kingi), and most notably Mark Hamill voicing Luke Skywalker (Graham Hamilton as the onset performer).

The story begins right after the ending of the second season of The Mandalorian with Boba Fett becoming the new Daimyo of Tatooine after taking it from Bib Fortuna who succeeded Jabba the Hutt after his death. Flashbacks also occur early within the first half of the season, they tell of Boba’s escape from the sarlacc pit, his travels and tragedies of traveling with Tusken Raiders, even some scenes of his boyhood in Kamino.

The Tuskens capturing him and making him one of their own after he earns their respect has had a profound impact on his outlook on life, it explains his transition from ruthless bounty hunter to a more diplomatic anti-hero. He has trouble earning the respect and tribute of the local crime bosses and citizens of Mos Espa without outright using an iron fist like his predecessors. He instead uses more favors and his reputation along with job offers to those in need and alliance compromises to gain what he wants. In a departure from his original characterization, Boba is much more forgiving than his comic/movie past self which works towards his benefit as his forgiveness gains him many allies against the criminal Pike Syndicate.

The Pikes are the main antagonists of the show and are the reason why Boba didn’t stay with Tuskens as they were killed by the Pikes without his knowledge (ironically when he was going to town to strike a deal with them on behalf of the Tuskens). Distraught and saddened, Boba sets out to find his armor that he lost and his old ship from Bib with the help of a now partially cyberized Fennec Shand who he saved to enlist her help. He then takes his revenge on a speed biker gang he thought responsible and goes off with Fennec to the events of the Mandalorian to find his armor. Boba has to deal with a wookie bounty hunter sent by Jabba’s twin cousins and unemployed bandit cyborg youths, all of which he recruits as his employees as a way to reconcile their differences and keep as allies.

Meanwhile, the story checks on Din Djarin, his travels as a bounty hunter without Grogu, his defending of the title of holding the darksaber from other mandalorians, and his rejection from his mandalorian tribe by revealing his face to someone else willingly. After getting a new ship Din and promising to help Fennec, Din travels to visit Grogu training with Luke Skywalker on a forest planet. He wants to give him a beskar chain mail gift in person and he meets Ahsoka Tano and R2-D2 who promise to give it to Grogu, of which Luke does and offers Grogu a choice to be a jedi or be with Din again.

Boba has to strike a truce of neutrality with the lower criminal lords and Mos Espa mayor to not join the Pikes in their slave spice trade, and has Din to embark on the help of Cobb Vanth and his people of Freetown. The Pikes in turn bomb a local Mos Espa club called the Sancturay and hire Cad Bane to kill Cobb in hopes it would scare his people into not joining Boba and letting the spice trade run through. Boba (who at this point is very much opposed to the spice trade) is learned of the truth by Cad Bane that the Pikes are the ones who killed his Tusken tribe; to add insult to injury, the local crime lords have revolted against Boba in favor of the Pikes. The people of Freetown and Grogu (who chose to be with Din) with the help of R2, have come in Boba’s time of need to help him and his allies defeat the Pikes/Cad Bane and their coalition. Boba confronts and kills Cad Bane, effectively killing the last part of past bounty hunter life and has Fennec assassinate the rest of the local crime/Pike leaders who are hiding on Mos Eisley. The story wraps up with Boba and his allies earning the respect of Mos Espa, and Din leaving with Grogu.     Overall the show had high viewership but mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike with the show having some highs and lows, particularly with the character departure of Boba from his more established characterization.

By Pedro Torres

John Glenn High School played their last football game of the 2021 season on Friday, October 29 against the Pioneer High School Titans and came home victorious by a final score of 31-26, ending the season on a high note.

One of the two major highlights of the first quarter was when John Glenn kick returner Manny Sigala scored on a kickoff return, running 99 yards for a touchdown! Then, minutes later, Iona Young capped off a 62-yard drive with a touchdown run, tying the score at 13-13. Fans were in for a good game as John Glenn and Pioneer were neck and neck when the first quarter came to a close.

During the second quarter, the Eagles were close to defeat. Pioneer had scored two touchdowns, pushing their lead to 26-13. All of a sudden, senior athlete Richard Ramos returned an interception and scored a touchdown, bringing the Eagles to within a touchdown at 26-19 at halftime.

The Eagles and Titans were head to head, but Pioneer had the lead by one point. During the final minutes of the fourth quarter, senior quarterback Natanael Jacobo scored the final touchdown after an 80-yard drive making the comeback complete. In a world where 80% of the population has a super power known as quirks, Izuku Midoriya is born without a quirk. His life goal to become the world’s greatest hero just like his idol and the symbol of peace, All Might, is cut short by the revelation. When Izuku comes across his idol on his way home, his life changes forever. Now with his new quirk of One for All, he attends U.A. High School with his classmates as they train to become pro heroes.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission brings out what fans love about the original anime series. A compelling story, unique original characters, high octane fights and stellar animation. The movie introduces new heroes with unique quirks and of course villains with powerful quirks.

The first act starts off with an introduction to this movie’s villain, Flect Turn, and his cult, Humarise. Their goal is to erase the world’s quirk and leave only the quirkless humans. The cults release a smoke that causes civilians to act on their own, killing many. The movie then cuts to the film’s three protagonists as they engage on a stealth mission. The three heroes are shown rocking their new sleek stealth suits.

The second act then slows down as the heroes are positioned in different areas around the world. Newcomer Rody Soul is introduced and how he and his little siblings live in poverty. He does jobs for the bar owner and during one job, he runs into Izuku and his trio. Izuku, hero name Deku, follows Rody and is held at gunpoint with Rody. They escape and Izuku is wanted by the world as a mass murderer. This act slows down and has a road-trip-film like feel as the “wanted” duo make it to a safe point.

The final act and climax is where the movie really starts kicking into high gear. Bombs with quirk erasing smoke begin to count down all over the world. The three heroes: Deku, Bakugo and Todorki have located the headquarters of Humarise and come up with a plan. After being given a chip that can stop all the bombs around the world, they decide to break into the headquarters to stop the end of the world, within only two hours. Piloted by Rody, the three heroes make it off the plane and begin to break in. The movie then splits into three major fights. The first fight consists of Bakugo vs new villains Serpenters. Second fight consists of Todoroki vs new-commer Leviathan. The final and most important fight features Izuku vs the headmaster, Flect Turn. The final fight goes all out with the animation and emotional aspect of the film.

Everything fans love is here and on the big screen. The music really fits the vibe of the scenes, especially during very stressful situations during the final act. The animation is also stellar throughout the whole movie, especially during a fight scene where there are no cuts and all in one perspective. Emotionally, the movie does that really great as well. The viewers can feel the stress and thrill from fights. The film is an amazing addition to the anime series, a must watch for the fans.

Top 3 Tik Tok Trends

By Betsy Carranza

Tik tok is an app full of entertainment; it started the year of 2016 by the chinese company ByteDance. The app has about 1.1 billion active global users by early 2021. Tik tok is a popular social media platform where people go out and make videos based on their opinions or on anything they wish to let others know about, or also videos of them and their friends going out and having fun. Tik Tok allows users to make and share 3 minute, 60 second or 15 second videos.  Based on Investopedia.com 69% of Tik Tok users are between the ages 13 and 24. 60% are females. Its users spend an average of 46 minutes per day on this app. What made this app so astronomically big was the trends that were happening through the app. For example, the top three trends as of 2021 are 1. Devious Lick 2. Dom Toretto and Family 3. Doja Cat (feat Sza) verse “Kiss Me More”.

There’s a  trend that even made it on the news which was called the “Devious lick”. This trend encouraged high school students to steal soap dispensers, laptops, and boxes of face masks. This all started when someone posted a video that got more than 7.2 million views in just two days. The video was about a kid opening up his Jansport backpack, with the caption of  “Only a month into school and got this absolute devious lick”, which was revealed  later in the video that he took a hand-sanitizer dispenser. The majority of people participating in this trend did this on school campuses. According to USA Today, students as young as 15 years old have been arrested and charged in states including Kentucky, Florida, Arizona, and Alabama for offenses including vandalism, theft, and criminal mischief. This is a trend where students would get together and try to impress others. This trend is an example of how you shouldn’t always participate in every trend that is going on in social media. Just because others are doing it, does not mean you should tag along and do the same.

TikTok says it has passed 1 billion users - The Verge

If you’re obsessed with Tik tok as so many of us are, you would have also seen the trend “Dom Toretto and Family” getting memed so hard all over Tik Tok. This all started when the new movie “Fast and Furious 9” came out with the main character “Dom Toretto” played by Vin Diesel. His role was all about being with and fighting for family. “Fast And Furious” is not just one movie; it has a series. In order for you to understand these movies, you will have to watch them from the beginning, but in order to understand this trend, you could watch any movie from “The Fast and the Furious”. Vin Diesel  just wants to enjoy a grill out with his loved ones, but now people online have turned his admirable dedication to his family into a meme. Everyone has a family, but not quite like “Dom Toretto”. They turned Dom Toretto’s soft side into a meme. This whole trend was about Toretto being obsessed with his family. People would videotape themselves anywhere and simply say the word “Family,” and a picture of Toretto would emerge, along with an audio message that said “Did you say family?”

This last trend involves the singer Doja Cat (feat sza)  and her song “Kiss Me More”.  This was a trend I believe everyone can participate in since it was so easy to do. In the song when SZA was just singing, you would hear this sound of a bicycle bell. How this trend works is you would be in the beginning of the clip dressed casually, and then when you hear that bicycle bell then you would flick your wrist and then change into a nice fit. Many do this trend when it’s their prom day or a special occasion. This trend is to show off your outfit. TikTok has inspired countless dance trends since its debut, but one of the most viral (and simple) of 2021 involves a simple flick of the wrist.

Eagle Football Returns

By D.Higgins

Sometimes, when you start by taking even the smallest step, life has a way of reminding you that things are going to be okay if you just keep going.

Walking into John Glenn High School Stadium on Friday, March 26 was not only a return to a place that had not held a football game since October 18, 2019, it was also a return to a rare, official, in-person school event during the time of the Covid virus. As we enter the tail-end of this once-in-a-century pandemic, a small crowd of dedicated students, athletes, cheerleaders, alumni, parents, teachers, and staff, showed up to cheer on the Eagles in their 605-League contest against the Cerritos Dons.

Even the security guards and administrators greeted guests at the gates with smiling eyes, voices muffled behind their masks and agreeing that, “It’s so nice to see you again.” Fans politely clapped and cheered, proud of their Eagles for showing up and doing their best for new head coach, Mr. David Cruz.

By all accounts, everything went smoothly. People cooperated by wearing masks, keeping socially distant from others, and coming in and out of the stadium with orderly understanding. There were no major injuries to report, players were largely respectful, and everybody in attendance got to experience an honest-to-goodness football game under Friday night lights on a beautiful spring evening. What more can you ask?

The results of the game are secondary to the uniqueness of the event. It doesn’t really matter that the visiting Dons ran roughshod over the Eagles young defense, rushing for six touchdowns by halftime. The powerful Cerritos attack was led by junior running back Connor DeFrain, whose 2 touchdowns matched starting quarterback David Sagun for the team lead. By the time it was over, the scoreboard read that the visitors won by a final score of 56-0.

With only six seniors on the roster–led by quarterback Matthew Huxtable, wide receiver Rafael Valdez, and team captain Anthony Lira–this young Eagles team has a long way to go to reclaim the glory of 605-League Championships and CIF Playoff appearances.

But, in the end, the important part is that they took that important first step. Didn’t we all?
