Homecoming Postponed

New date scheduled for October 20-21
John Glenn High School had their homecoming dance postponed due to a scheduling error on Hawthorne High School’s behalf. The homecoming dance was originally scheduled for September 23, 2022.
It was postponed due to the fact that Hawthorne High School scheduled a football game with our school, but they were not supposed to play any more preseason games, having already played the maximum of five games. Our homecoming football game is now Thursday, October 20, 2022 vs. Artesia High School.
The new homecoming dance date is Friday, October 21, 2022, and not many students are happy about that. Students do not want to go to a dance the night after school, and you are not allowed to leave school early or skip the day for any reason, or else you can NOT attend the dance.
Many students, specifically seniors, were super bummed about the date being moved. They already had purchased things such as full outfits, entry tickets, and had even made schedule changes, since most of our seniors actually work.
The announcement of homecoming’s postponement was released on Sunday night, September 18. Many people were anxious, upset, and confused because no details as to why it was postponed came out until the following Monday, the 19th. Nothing was officially confirmed until that following Tuesday and Wednesday, the 20th and 21st.
A football player, Mikel Udengwu, first gave me the information about the upcoming games, and it was finally confirmed by our athletic director Mrs. Linda Parra later that day.
The Destination Homecoming Dance will have things such as dinner, dancing, games and even photo opportunities, and I’m excited to see the outcome. Be sure to read my follow-up article in The Shoemaker Bugle, coming to newsstands Friday, October 28.
